Bruce Sutherland When the bomber was hit the first time on Bruce's inaugural mission, he was not sure if the plane was upside down, or falling, because he ended up suspended from the ceiling for a while. Once he fell back to the floor, the skipper told them to put their parachutes on. Bruce reached down and got his parachute and clipped it on to his harness. The wireless operator sitting near him could not find his parachute. He was frantically looking as the plane struggled in the air. Bruce was worried, and as he looked for the other parachute, originally placed next to his, the second hit blew the front turret off the aircraft where the gunner was...
